The new storytelling CD,Bootsie in Season arrived yesterday. I had to turnaround and send 700 CDs to Jonesborough, TN for the National Festival. Right now everything feels a bit like a new school year… New stuff, so here’s a new blog.
I knew when people started to bug me about writing a blog that I would call it, Neurotically Sentimental. I am, you know. Lucky for me that somehow I created a character with whom I could be in that neurotically sentimental and yet maintain a state of relative coolness. Marguerite (or Uncle Charles) can gripe about anything they want and if I’m doing my job, it turns out to be cute and all, but few, save those who know me well, realize it’s really just me doing all the griping.
I think I coined the phrase in my head years ago while standing in a late-night grocery store line with my old show-biz buddy, part-time Shakespearian actor and professional puppeteer-for-a-dead guy, Clark Orwick. This was back in my Renaissance festival days. We were standing in line there and I noticed all the balloons fenced-in on the ceiling. A lady in front of us was buying one – all big and shiny and mylar-y. The jerkiest, sourest part of me said, “man, balloons are something you purchase at fun places where you have fun times, like the circus or the fair or the zoo. It’s so weird to buy a balloon at midnight at the Kroger.”
Clark looked at me for a long time with that perfectly squashed squint he has – the kind of look that gets better with age. He said, “you know, you’re a real old fashioned stick in the mud, you know that?”
Yes I do.
But, like Marguerite I’m actually pretty happy. I just like to gripe. It’s an old family trait.
I’m glad you’re here.

Hi Andy!
Just got back from the National Story Telling Festival where we got to see you doing Every Saturday for a Funeral. Thanks so much for the autograph, I got your two new CDs! So glad to know you're still working out there in the world - you're awesome. :)

OH! PS, I almost forgot.
My sister wants you to release an album with Petroleum Jelly on it so she can hear it all the time.
And I'd like that too. :)
Okay, sorry for double posting. Thanks again!

Hey Andy!
Heard you at Storytelling Festival! Great presentation. I look forward to the next time I can attend one of your programs. It is not time to use my heated seats in the car yet . However when I do I will be very careful.
Thanks for the laughs,
Jen
I saw you years ago at the Unitarian Church in Augusta. That is where I got Banana Seat and I still love it! I listen to it so much my 5 year old daughter knows the words to "Clarice!" Thanks for all the laughs!

Hi Andy! My son and I go every chance we get to hear you! You are the best! I bought your CD and sent it to my southern girl friend (I am southern too) and she loved you so much (or actually Marguerite) that she changed her name to Marguerite..lol
I cannot think of a better gift than your CD's...they give so much more than just a story...

Glad you are in Nebraska, hope you are enduring the weather, proably do not have wind chill in GA I'm betting but you do you have hush puppies so there is the trade off, (I think we got ripped off on that one!)
Thank you for sharing about your guy, god bless you too, maybe our guys have crossed paths in the wild blue yonder, hope so.
Your stories are great!

Oh, Andy, you need to drop us a blog nugget.
Just found your website after coming home from Riverway (this is the girl with the Sharpie pen and the green army men in her bike bag ^.^). Awww, neglected blogs are sad...I hope you're still reading your comments.
That aside, really awesome stories, hope to see you again sometime!
